Jamshedpur : The wait is over—Jamshedpur’s newest residents at the Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) have officially been named. Following an enthusiastic response from the citizens, the male tiger has been christened “Rudra”, while the female tiger will be known as “Meghna.”
The duo, brought in from Nagpur Zoo on March 21, 2025, were the subjects of a citywide naming contest organized by TSZP. Inviting suggestions via SMS and WhatsApp, the zoo received a whopping 318 unique name entries from residents by March 24.
To select the final names, a special committee evaluated the submissions based on popularity, significance, and relevance to the majestic pair. Ultimately, the winning names were proposed by Sahil Sharma, who now earns the title of contest winner. Notably, “Rudra” was also suggested by 10 other participants, highlighting its widespread appeal.
As a reward, Sahil Sharma will get an exclusive opportunity for a close-up photo with the tiger pair.
Additionally, he and the 10 others who suggested “Rudra” will receive invitations to attend the grand inaugural event of the new tiger enclosure on Monday, April 21 at 4 pm.
The event will be graced by Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President – Corporate Services, Tata Steel, and President of the Tata Steel Zoological Society, as the chief guest.
All shortlisted participants will be honored with mementos as a token of appreciation for their involvement in this heartwarming community initiative.
