UditVani, Jamshedpur : The accident took place around 8:30 am, a time when the overbridge remains choked with commuters heading to schools and offices.
Witnesses said the overbridge was heavily congested, yet the movement of heavy vehicles continued unchecked. Residents alleged that the absence of effective traffic regulation on the stretch has made it increasingly accident-prone, especially during peak hours.
The truck, reportedly owned by a construction firm and carrying machinery at the rear, was moving from the Sankata Singh petrol pump side towards Star Talkies when it struck the scooter. The force of the collision threw both riders onto the road, causing serious injuries.
Bystanders rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to safety near the roadside before placing them in the nearby Hanuman temple premises.
The injured woman alerted her family, who soon arrived at the spot.
On receiving information, traffic police reached the location, managed the traffic and took the truck into custody.
The injured were later taken to Sadar Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
The incident has once again sparked concern over road safety on the Tatanagar flyover, with locals urging the authorities to ban the movement of heavy vehicles during busy morning hours to avoid further accidents.
