UditVani, Jamshedpur : A sharp winter chill intensified across Jharkhand on Friday as Gumla emerged as the coldest place in the state, recording a biting minimum temperature of 2.8°C, indicated a bulletin issued by India Meteorological Department’s (IMD), Ranchi centre.
Cold wave conditions prevailed in parts of Gumla and Ranchi, while several districts reported night temperatures well below normal.
Ranchi logged a minimum of 7°C, Daltonganj 5.6°C, Jamshedpur 10°C and Bokaro Thermal 7.5°C, highlighting the widespread impact of the cold spell.
Day temperatures also remained subdued, with maximums dipping below seasonal averages at most locations.
Dense fog further compounded winter woes, reducing visibility in pockets of the state.
Deoghar airport reported the lowest visibility at just 500 metres, while foggy conditions were also observed in Jamshedpur during the early morning hours.
No rainfall was recorded anywhere in Jharkhand over the past 24 hours.
Chaibasa stood out as the warmest location during the day with a maximum temperature of 26.8°C, underlining sharp day–night temperature contrasts.
The IMD has indicated that cold conditions are likely to persist, advising residents—especially the elderly, children and outdoor workers-to take adequate precautions during early morning and late-night hours.
