UditVani, Jamshedpur: A 10-year-old boy was robbed of his gold locket by three miscreants in Bhuiyandih’s Kalyan Nagar on Thursday evening, sparking fear among residents and renewing criticism of inadequate police patrolling in the area.
According to reports, Sarita Devi of A Block had gone to Kalyan Nagar Chowk with her son, Upendra Caebrata, to purchase household items. While returning, the boy walked nearly 100 metres ahead when three youths emerged from behind the Shiv Temple, grabbed him, covered his mouth and snatched the gold locket from his neck.
Sarita Devi rushed to the spot after hearing her son’s cries, but the accused had already escaped into the narrow lanes. Locals gathered quickly and alerted the police.
Residents allege that irregular patrolling has encouraged anti-social elements. They also note an increase in the movement of outsiders in the locality, with reports of youths consuming banned substances and engaging in the sale of alcohol, cannabis and brown sugar.
A similar snatching incident occurred a month ago in C Block, where a woman’s earrings were snatched. Locals say that a neighbourhood known for peace for 50 years is now turning into a crime hotspot.
Residents have urged police to intensify patrolling, identify suspicious individuals and clamp down on drug-related activities to restore safety and normalcy in the area.
