UditVani, Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday announced the complete withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from Jharkhand, signaling the onset of the post-monsoon season.
The monsoon, which arrived in the state in mid-June, departed on October 13— almost in line with the normal withdrawal schedule.
With the monsoon’s exit, Jharkhand is expected to witness dry weather and clearer skies over the next several days.
As per the forecast, the sky will remain mostly clear on October 14, while partly cloudy but dry conditions will prevail between October 15 and 17.
Day temperatures may remain warm, but nights and early mornings are likely to turn noticeably cooler, especially in the plateau and hilly regions such as Ranchi, Hazaribagh, and Latehar.
Meteorological officials said the withdrawal line of the Southwest Monsoon currently passes through 14°N/72°E, Karwar, Kalburgi, Nizamabad, Kanker, Keonjhargarh, Sagar, Synoptic Island, Guwahati, and 28.0°N/92.5°E. “No significant weather system is prevailing over Jharkhand at present,” the IMD report added.
However, a weak upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the central parts of Uttar Pradesh, between 1.5 and 3.1 Km above mean sea level, though it is not expected to impact the weather pattern in Jharkhand.
With the withdrawal of monsoon moisture, meteorologists said the state will gradually transition toward the winter season.
Farmers are now advised to begin post-harvest activities and prepare their fields for rabi sowing, as soil moisture levels will start declining over the next week.
