Jamshedpur : Following the directives of the Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal , a crackdown was conducted by Sub-Divisional Officer of Dhalbhum, Shatabdi Majumdar, against illegal tobacco sales near schools on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out near DBMS School in Kadma under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions.
Food Safety Officer Manzar also participated in the inspection drive. Several shops located near the school were inspected during the operation. Vendors found violating the regulations were issued warnings, and two shopkeepers were fined on the spot.
The Dhalbhum SDO emphasized that such activities near schools and colleges pose a serious threat to the health of children and youth.
She reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards these violations and appealed to the public to report such cases to the authorities to help build a tobacco-free society.
The campaign will continue across various areas in the coming days.
