Uditvani, Jamshedpur: In a surprising feat, Jamshedpur’s leading electronics showroom, National Electronics, is installing around 300 air conditioners at customers’ homes every day.
This translates to approximately 9,000 installations in a month and nearly 50,000 units throughout the summer season. With the scorching heat, the demand for air conditioners has more than tripled.
National Electronics’ proprietor, Vishal Singh, shared that modern air conditioners now come with advanced features, allowing users to adjust the cooling capacity between one to two tons based on their needs.
This not only improves convenience but also helps in reducing electricity consumption.
Buying an AC has also become significantly easier for customers, thanks to zero down payment options and no-cost EMI financing schemes.
Singh noted that these facilities have enabled more people to afford air conditioners for their homes.
Additionally, they are offering branded ACs with a 5-year product warranty and a 10-year compressor warranty. The demand for auxiliary supporting AC units like Alexi is also notably high.
More Heat on the Way
According to the India Meteorological Department, more intense heatwaves are expected in May, with temperatures peaking before the onset of the monsoon in June. As a result, the sale of air conditioners is expected to continue booming over the next couple of months.
AC Market Growth Projections
The International Energy Agency predicts that by 2030, the number of air conditioner units in India will reach 240 million, up from 93 million in 2024.
Poor ventilation and high population density in urban areas are also contributing to the surge in AC sales. Last year, about 40% of AC purchases were made through consumer financing options like credit and “Buy Now, Pay Later” schemes.
Focus on Energy Efficiency and Pollution Control
Customers are increasingly opting for energy-efficient models that also help reduce air pollution. Five-star-rated ACs, which feature auto-cut compressors that stop once the room reaches the desired temperature, are particularly popular.
Key Factors in AC Purchase Decisions
Buyers are prioritizing three-star and five-star inverter ACs for better energy savings, although non-inverter ACs still see demand due to their faster cooling capabilities.
Room size is a key consideration, with customers choosing between one-ton, 1.5-ton, or two-ton units.
Models with air purifier features, especially those equipped with PM 2.5 filters, are also gaining popularity.
For quieter operation, most customers are now preferring split ACs over window models, though renters and those with available window space are still opting for window ACs.
