UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a tragic incident, a 64-year-old man identified as Joseph Anthony, a resident of B Road, Bistupur, died by suicide by jumping into the Dhatkidih lake on Tuesday.
The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Bistupur police station area.
According to family members, Joseph Anthony used to go for a morning walk every day. On Tuesday, he left home around 5 am as usual but did not return.
He had also left his mobile phone at home, which raised concerns among the family.
Despite extensive searching in the surrounding areas, they were unable to locate him.
Around 2 pm, the police received information that an unidentified man had jumped into the Dhatkidih lake.
Police rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, recovered the body from the water.
As initial identification was not possible, the body was sent to the MGM Hospital mortuary.
Later in the evening, the family identified the deceased as Joseph Anthony.
They informed the police that he had been suffering from various health ailments and was under mental stress.
He had become increasingly withdrawn in recent times, often leaving the house silently in the mornings.
Bistupur police have sent the body for post-mortem and are investigating the matter further.
