Jamshedpur : India Meteorological Department has issued a significant weather warning for May 20 and 21, forecasting thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by strong gusty winds across isolated parts of the state.
On May 20, gusty winds are expected to reach speeds of 50–60 kmph, with a likelihood of thunderstorm activity at scattered locations. In addition, heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated pockets of the north-eastern parts of the state, which could lead to minor flooding, waterlogging, and disruption of local services.
On May 21, thunderstorm activity will continue with winds likely to blow at speeds of 40–50 kmph, affecting isolated regions of the state once again.
Meteorological Cause: East-West Trough Intensifying Conditions
The prevailing weather disturbance is due to the presence of an east-west trough extending from Punjab to north Bangladesh, cutting across Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, south Bihar, and north Gangetic West Bengal at a height of 1.5 km above mean sea level. This system is enhancing atmospheric instability, triggering thunderstorms and potential downpours in the region.
Public Advisory:
Residents should avoid open areas and shelter indoors during storm activity.
Farmers are advised to safeguard crops and avoid working in open fields during the forecast period.
Drivers and commuters should be cautious of low visibility, slippery roads, and localized flooding.
Fishermen and those in outdoor occupations should follow safety guidelines and updates from local authorities.
People are encouraged to stay tuned to official weather updates and advisories issued by the meteorological department as conditions evolve.
