Jamshedpur : A prolonged spell of severe weather is expected to sweep across Jharkhand, as the Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a series of alerts for thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and heavy rain through May 28.
Detailed Weather Outlook:
May 23:
Isolated areas across Jharkhand will likely experience thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds reaching 50–60 kmph. Northeastern districts will also face stormy conditions, though wind speeds may remain slightly lower at 40–50 kmph. Heavy rain is also expected in parts of northwestern and north-central Jharkhand.
May 24:
Most regions, except the northeast, remain under weather watch for thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 50 kmph. The northeast will still witness thunderstorm activity with winds of 30–40 kmph.
May 25–28:
Daily bouts of thunderstorm activity are forecast across the state, with lightning and winds gusting up to 40–50 kmph expected at isolated locations.
Weather System in Focus:
The current instability is driven by a trough running from a cyclonic circulation over Punjab down through central Madhya Pradesh. This system is further intensified by an upper-air cyclonic circulation around 1.5 km above sea level, currently positioned over northeast Madhya Pradesh and southeast Uttar Pradesh.
Safety Advisory:
Residents are urged to stay indoors during lightning activity, secure loose items vulnerable to strong winds, and avoid open spaces. Farmers and outdoor workers should plan ahead to minimize exposure during peak weather hours.
