Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a weather alert across several regions of Jharkhand, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds through April 14.
On April 11, eastern parts of the state are expected to face thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds blowing at 40–50 kmph.
Other areas—including the south-western, central, and nearby north-eastern zones—may witness similar weather with slightly lower wind speeds of 30–40 kmph.
The alert remains in place from April 12 to 14, with most areas likely to be impacted by storms and gusts reaching up to 50 kmph. Notably, on April 13, nearly the entire state—except for the north-western districts—may experience turbulent weather. By April 14, the stormy conditions are forecast to affect all districts except Garhwa and Palamu.
The unstable weather is being driven by a low-pressure system over the west-central Bay of Bengal, along with upper air cyclonic circulations over northwest Madhya Pradesh and northeast Bihar.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during thunderstorms, secure any loose items, and adhere to guidelines issued by local authorities for their safety.
