Jamshedpur : A prolonged spell of stormy weather is set to grip the state in the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting intense thunderstorm activity, accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 Kmph.
Hailstorms are expected to strike isolated pockets in the eastern region on April 10, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are also likely to impact western and central areas. The stormy conditions will stretch into April 11, bringing wind speeds of 30–40 kmph to southern, eastern, and central districts.
The weather pattern is forecast to intensify again on April 12 and 13, with wind speeds ramping up to 50 kmph in eastern and central belts. By April 13, most parts of the state—barring the northwestern region—could experience significant weather disturbances.
The current instability stems from a well-marked low-pressure system hovering over the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. Active in the mid-troposphere, the system is expected to track northward before shifting northeast and gradually weakening over the central Bay.
Further aggravating the conditions is a trough line running from southeast Madhya Pradesh to East Gangetic West Bengal, cutting across Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. This feature is adding fuel to the ongoing atmospheric turbulence.
Officials at IMD’s Ranchi Centre have urged residents to monitor weather updates closely and adopt safety measures as the volatile conditions persist.
