UditVani , Jamshedpur : The monsoon is gaining strength over eastern India, with Jharkhand bracing for an extended spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next five days.
A low-pressure area, induced by an upper air cyclonic circulation, has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal.
This system is expected to move west-northwestwards, bringing intense weather activity over north Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and parts of Chhattisgarh.
Forecast Highlights for Jharkhand:
June 27:
Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over southern and adjoining central districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely across the state.
June 28:
Widespread showers to continue, with heavy rainfall forecast for southern, central, and north-central parts. Thunderstorm and wind activity may persist.
June 29:
A significant uptick in intensity. Very heavy rainfall is likely over north-central and adjoining central Jharkhand, while heavy showers may lash southern, central, and north-western pockets.
June 30:
Heavy rain expected in north-western and adjoining areas, coupled with thunderstorms and lightning activity across isolated parts of the state.
July 1:
The monsoon will shift focus to the north-eastern region, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated locations.
Monsoon Progress:
The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) has currently advanced up to Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur, Rampur, Sonipat, Anup Nagar, and stretches up to 29.0°N/70.0°E.
This advance, coupled with the prevailing low-pressure system, is expected to accelerate the monsoon’s northward progress in the coming days.
Advisory:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) advises caution, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The public, particularly farmers and commuters, are urged to stay updated on local weather alerts and take necessary precautions during intense rainfall and storm periods.
As the monsoon deepens its grip over Jharkhand, a mix of relief and caution will mark the days ahead.
