Monsoon Likely to Arrive Early in Kerala, Uncertainty Remains for Jharkhand, Says Meteorologists

Jamshedpur : The southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala four days ahead of its usual date, likely arriving on May 27 this year, according to a long range forecast of India Meteorological Department (IMD), New Delhi.

However, uncertainty persists regarding the timely onset of the monsoon in Jharkhand.

Senior meteorologists at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, said that a more accurate prediction for Jharkhand’s monsoon arrival can only be made after it officially hits Kerala.

Weathermen emphasized that an early onset in Kerala does not necessarily guarantee an early arrival in Jharkhand, as the monsoon’s advancement depends on prevailing weather conditions.

Last year, the monsoon arrived in Jharkhand on June 21—six days later than the normal date of June 15. Weather experts noted that in the past decade, the state has frequently experienced delayed monsoon onset.

Current Weather in Jharkhand:

At present, the state is witnessing fluctuating weather with high temperatures and humidity. A yellow alert has been issued for Thursday due to the possibility of thunderstorms, strong winds, and scattered rainfall in Ranchi and several other regions.

Heatwave Alert from May 13 to 15:

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for a potential heatwave in eastern Jharkhand, including the districts of Sahibganj, Godda, Pakur, Jamtara, Dumka, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Seraikela till today.

Weather Change Expected Between May 15 and 17:

Another shift in weather conditions is likely between May 15 and 17, with forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and rain. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and follow official weather advisories.
