UditVani, Jamshedpur: A ration shop located at the Dimna Road entry point under the Mango police station limits was burgled late Thursday night, with thieves decamping with cash and goods worth nearly Rs 30,000.
The incident came to light on Friday morning when the shop owner, Vikas Gupta, arrived to open the shop and found the lock broken and the premises ransacked.
Gupta said he had kept Rs 20,000 in cash at the shop to make payments to a wholesaler, all of which was stolen.
In addition, food grains and other essential items valued at around ₹10,000 were also missing. He added that the burglars appeared to have acted with planning, targeting the cash counter and valuable stock.
On receiving information, Mango police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Preliminary steps included collecting fingerprints and questioning nearby residents.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also being examined to trace the offenders. Police officials said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved at the earliest.
Former BJP leader Vikas Singh visited the shop after being informed of the incident and expressed concern over the rising number of thefts and criminal incidents in the Dimna Road entry area. He said repeated such cases have heightened fear among local traders and residents, and demanded increased night patrolling and stronger security measures.
Police said the probe is ongoing, while the incident has left traders and locals worried about safety in the area.
