UditVani,Jamshedpur: Household budgets in Jamshedpur are set to face additional pressure after the price of domestic LPG cylinders was increased by Rs 60 with effect from today, March 7.
Following the revision, a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 952.5 in the city, up from the earlier price of Rs 892.5.
The hike forms part of a nationwide revision in cooking gas prices amid rising global energy costs, largely attributed to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
The increase marks the second such hike in nearly 11 months, adding to the financial strain on households already grappling with rising living expenses.
LPG dealer D.K. Singh said the revision has been implemented across distribution points from Saturday. “The price adjustment is in line with the directives issued by oil marketing companies. While dealers simply follow the revised rates, we understand that such hikes impact household budgets, especially for middle-class families,” he said.
Homemakers in the city expressed concern over the increasing cost of essential commodities. “Every few months the price of LPG goes up, and it directly affects our monthly expenses. Managing the household budget is becoming increasingly difficult,” said Sushmita Roy, a resident of Kadma.
Another homemaker, Neha Verma from Mango, echoed similar sentiments. “Cooking gas is a basic necessity. When its price rises, it leaves us with little choice but to cut down spending in other areas,” she said.
Across major metro cities, the revised domestic LPG prices now stand at about Rs 913 in Delhi, Rs 912.50 in Mumbai, Rs 939 in Kolkata and Rs 928.50 in Chennai.
Alongside domestic cylinders, the price of commercial LPG cylinders (19 kg cylinders)
has also been raised by Rs 115, impacting restaurants and small businesses.
The latest increase is expected to further strain household budgets, particularly for families dependent on LPG as their primary cooking fuel.
