UditVani, Jamshedpur : The monsoon is expected to gain significant momentum in Jharkhand this week, following the development of a low-pressure system over the Northwest Bay of Bengal.
This weather system, now situated over coastal Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of Bangladesh, is predicted to move west-northwestwards, gradually affecting North Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand over the next 48-hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the associated cyclonic circulation is extending up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level, which will enhance moisture incursion and rainfall activity over the region.
The monsoon trough is currently active, stretching from Sri Ganganagar through Delhi, Fatehgarh, Sidhi, Jamshedpur, and extending into the northeast Bay of Bengal via the centre of the low-pressure system.
Additionally, a secondary trough in the lower and mid-levels of the atmosphere, extending from southwest Uttar Pradesh to the low-pressure centre, is likely to further contribute to rainfall over Jharkhand and adjoining states.
Rainfall Outlook for Jharkhand
July 1: Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in the western districts. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in various parts of the state.
July 2: Heavy rain is likely at isolated locations in the north-central districts, accompanied by thunderstorm activity.
July 3: Rainfall may continue over north-central and adjoining areas, with lightning risks persisting.
July 4: Enhanced precipitation is forecast for north-central and adjoining eastern districts, with likely thunderstorm events.
July 5: The northeastern belt of the state may witness isolated heavy showers.
People are advised to remain vigilant, especially in flood-prone and lightning-sensitive zones.
This system is expected to rejuvenate monsoon rainfall in Jharkhand, offering relief from dry spells but also necessitating caution due to the possibility of localised flooding and storm hazards.
