Udit Vani Jamshedpur : In a major administrative move aimed at curbing the rising number of land-related disputes in Jharkhand, the state government has directed all Circle Officers (COs) to dedicate at least one hour every day to hear public grievances related to land.
This decision is expected to bring much-needed relief to thousands of citizens facing prolonged legal and bureaucratic hurdles over land issues.
Land disputes have long been a persistent issue across Jharkhand, especially in rural areas. Conflicts related to land titles, demarcation, registration (dakhil-kharij), and forged documents are common, often leading to years of unresolved cases. With this new directive, the state hopes to streamline the resolution process and make it more accessible to the common people.
A Direct Platform for Citizens
Under the new policy, each CO will reserve a fixed one-hour slot daily exclusively to interact with the public on land-related matters. Citizens can walk into the CO’s office during this time to lodge complaints, seek clarification, or get updates on pending cases. The initiative aims to cut through red tape and allow citizens direct access to decision-makers at the local level.
Focus on Swift Resolution
The government has emphasized that the initiative is not just about listening but also delivering time-bound resolutions. COs have been instructed to prioritize serious cases and escalate complex ones to higher authorities. Special investigation teams may also be deployed in cases involving large-scale fraud or sensitive land parcels.
Push for Digital Transparency
In a parallel move, the revenue department is accelerating efforts to digitize land records across the state. Digital systems will help reduce manipulation, bring transparency, and allow for easier tracking of disputes. An online portal is also in development to help citizens monitor the status of their complaints in real time.
Bridging the Gap Between People and Administration
Experts believe this step will not only reduce the burden of land litigation but also strengthen trust between citizens and the government. In rural and tribal regions, where access to information and justice is often limited, the initiative could be a game-changer.
A New Chapter in Land Governance
The Jharkhand government’s decision marks a significant shift toward citizen-friendly governance. If implemented effectively, it could set a precedent for other states facing similar challenges. With Circle Officers now directly accountable to the people for resolving land disputes, Jharkhand may finally be on its way to cleaner, faster, and fairer land administration.
