UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jharkhand continues to experience a sharp contrast between warming daytime temperatures and persistently cold nights, as revealed in the Realised Weather Report issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre, Ranchi today.
While maximum temperatures across most districts remained above normal, minimum temperatures dipped significantly at several locations, underlining the continuation of wintry night conditions across the state.
According to IMD data, Khunti AWS recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Jharkhand at 5.1°C, making it the coldest location in the state.
Other regions also witnessed chilly nights, with Gumla AWS reporting 5.3°C, Bokaro AWS 6.1°C, Lohardaga AWS 6.3°C, and Bano Simdega AWS 7.7°C.
Urban centres too were not spared from the cold. Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 8.4°C, while Jamshedpur settled at 10.0°C, both remaining below their seasonal normals.
Daltonganj experienced a particularly cold night at 6.7°C, showing a significant negative departure from average temperatures. Bokaro Thermal registered 7.2°C, where IMD officially confirmed cold wave conditions, with the minimum temperature departing sharply by –4.7°C from normal.
Other notable minimum temperatures included Chaibasa (PTO) at 9.2°C, Koderma AWS at 9.4°C, Pakur AWS at 9.9°C, Saraikela AWS at 9.2°C, and Latehar AWS, which remained relatively milder at 13.1°C.
Several stations, including Deoghar AWS, Baharagora AWS, Hazaribag AWS and Jagannathpur AWS, did not report minimum temperature data.
Despite reduced visibility of 1100 metres at Jamshedpur, the IMD confirmed that no fog was officially recorded anywhere in the state, and rainfall remained nil across all districts during the past 24 hours.
Meteorological experts indicate that while daytime temperatures are expected to stay above normal in the coming days, cold nights and early mornings are likely to persist, especially in plateau, forested and industrial regions.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious during late night and early morning hours, as winter conditions are expected to hold their ground despite the gradual warming trend during the day.
