
UditVani, Jamshedpur : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a fresh spell of active monsoon conditions in Jharkhand this week, as a low-pressure system forms over the Bay of Bengal.
The system, coupled with an upper air cyclonic circulation, is expected to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours and move west-northwestwards, making landfall over south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coasts by forenoon of August 19.
Weather Forecast for Jharkhand:
August 19:
Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph) likely at isolated places across Jharkhand.
Higher vulnerability expected in eastern districts such as East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Saraikela-Kharsawan, and Ranchi.
August 20:
Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over north-eastern and adjoining central districts.
Districts most likely to be affected include Godda, Sahibganj, Pakur, Dumka, Deoghar, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad, and Ranchi.
August 21:
Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty winds (30–40 kmph) likely at isolated places.
Expected impact zones: Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Chatra, Latehar, and Palamu.
August 22–23:
Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places across most parts of the state, with stronger activity anticipated in southern and central belts including Simdega, Gumla, Khunti, Lohardaga, and adjoining Ranchi district.
Synoptic Situation:
The monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Ratlam, passing through the low-pressure centre over Vidarbha, Jagdalpur, and further into the east-central Bay of Bengal.
The cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure system extends up to 9.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height.
Monsoon activity was weak for last 48- hours, with very light to light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms recorded at isolated places.
IMD Advisory:
The IMD has urged residents and district administrations to remain cautious during the forecast period. Risks of waterlogging, lightning strikes, gusty winds, and localized flooding are anticipated, especially in vulnerable districts. Farmers and outdoor workers have been advised to take necessary precautions.
