UditVani, Jamshedpur: A daring burglary was reported from a Tata Steel residential quarter on KPS Road under the Burmamines Police Station area, where unidentified thieves decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 3.5 lakh along with Rs 12,000 in cash.
The theft took place at Quarter No. 56, belonging to a Tata Steel employee, between 7 pm and 8 pm on Tuesday.
The quarter is presently occupied by the employee’s elderly father and aunt, while the rest of the family resides in Kadma.
As per the complaint, the two residents had locked the house and stepped out to a nearby quarter to watch television.
During this brief absence, the burglars reportedly scaled the rear boundary wall, broke open the grill lock, and entered the premises. They then forced open an almirah and made off with jewellery and cash kept inside.
The incident came to light when the occupants returned and noticed the broken lock and ransacked rooms. The matter was immediately reported to the police.
Police teams reached the spot soon after, conducted a preliminary inspection, and questioned people in the neighbourhood.
A case has been registered against unknown miscreants, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scrutinised.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend those involved in the theft.
