
UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a display of strategic brilliance and team synergy, Tata Steel’s Chess team emerged victorious at the Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) Chess Championship 2025, hosted by Bhilai Steel Plant from July 1 to 3.
The annual national-level tournament witnessed fierce competition among chess contingents from nine major steel plants across India.
The Tata Steel team outshone rivals including IISCO (Burnpur), RINL (Visakhapatnam), Rourkela Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant, JSW, Salem Steel Plant, Visvesvaraya Iron & Steel Plant, and the host Bhilai Steel Plant — many of which fielded experienced and rated players.
Tata Steel’s victory was not only a result of individual brilliance but also effective coordination and resilience in crucial rounds. The team’s consistent performance across boards helped it maintain the lead throughout the tournament, earning them the coveted championship title.
The SPSB Chess Championship is a significant event in the Indian corporate sporting calendar, aimed at promoting mind sports and inter-plant camaraderie among employees of India’s steel sector.
