UditVani, Jamshedpur: Managing director and CEO of Tata Steel T.V. Narendran visited the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands on Wednesday.
He opened the 10th round of the ‘Wimbledon of Chess’ and had a brief meet and greet with the participants from India.
Narendran was impressed by the tournament. He is no stranger to chess, as since 2018, there has also been a Tata Steel Chess India tournament, which follows a similar concept to the one in Wijk aan Zee, featuring amateurs, youth activities, and the highest-ranked players in the world.
Chess is extremely popular in India, especially since Gukesh D. from India became the youngest world champion in chess in December last year.
