UditVani, Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur FC suffered a tough 2-0 defeat against NorthEast United FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in the Indian Super League (ISL) match on Thursday evening.
Despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances, Khalid Jamil’s men were unable to break through a resolute NorthEast United FC defense.
The visitors took an early lead in the sixth minute through Alaaeddine Ajaraie, who capitalized on a quick move from Redeem Tlang and Thoi Singh.
The Moroccan forward found space inside the box and slotted the ball past Albino Gomes, marking his record-breaking 19th goal of the season.
Jamshedpur FC responded with attacking intent, pushing bodies forward in search of an equalizer.
The Men of Steel enjoyed significant possession and tested the NorthEast defense multiple times. Javi Siverio and Sanan Mohammed came close to leveling the score. Just before halftime, Muhammad Uvais’ long throw created an opportunity for Sanan, but Michel Zabaco’s goal-line clearance denied the hosts.
The second half saw Jamshedpur FC increase their intensity, pressing high and looking for a breakthrough.
However, NorthEast United FC’s disciplined defensive structure limited clear-cut chances.
Jamil made changes to add more attacking options, but the visitors remained compact at the back.
The turning point of the match came in the 79th minute when Nikhil Barla was adjudged to have brought down Thoi Singh inside the box, conceding a penalty.
Albino Gomes initially saved Ajaraie’s spot-kick with an outstanding stop, but the Moroccan was quick to react, finishing from the rebound in the 81st minute to double NorthEast United’s lead.
Despite late substitutions, including the introduction of Stephen Eze and Ritwik Das, Jamshedpur FC couldn’t find a way past Gurmeet Singh.
The loss means Jamshedpur FC remains in third place with 34 points from 20 matches, while NorthEast United FC climbs to fourth with 32 points.
With four crucial matches left in the season, Jamil’s side will need to regroup quickly and bounce back stronger in the upcoming fixtures.
Jamshedpur FC face Mohammedan SC in their next away encounter on February 20.
