UditVani, NewsDesk: Foreign affairs expert Robinder Sachdeva has expressed concerns over China’s recent decision to establish two new counties in Hotan Prefecture, which includes portions of Indian territory in Aksai Chin. This move has triggered a strong diplomatic reaction from India, raising alarms about potential territorial and environmental consequences.
Sachdeva explained that the creation of He’an County and Hekang County is part of a broader strategy to strengthen China’s control over Aksai Chin. He also voiced grave concerns about a proposed mega-dam project on the Yarlung Tsangpo River, known as the Brahmaputra River in India.
“This dam, with an estimated cost of around USD 140 billion, could drastically alter water flow, threatening drinking and irrigation supplies in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam,” he cautioned.
Sachdeva further emphasized the potential environmental risks, including disruptions to soil stability and the broader ecological health of the region. He raised concerns about China’s unilateral control over shared water resources, noting that such a large-scale project could have severe implications not only for water availability but also for soil integrity and overall environmental balance.
