UditVani, Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur chapter of Indian Medical Association ( IMA) held a press conference at its Sakchi office on the World Cancer Day today.
The objective was to raise awareness about cancer and to provide information about its prevention and protection measures.
IMA member Dr. Sachin Sagar Chaudhary expressed serious concern over the increasing cancer cases.
IMA functionaries Dr. G.C. Manjhi, Dr. Saurabh Chaudhary, Dr. Nirmal Kumar, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Shubhrakanti Kundu, Dr. B Pradhan, Dr. Rajiv Thakur and Dr. Rohit Jha discussed in detail the measures to prevent, treat and protect against cancer.
They said that healthy lifestyle, balanced diet and regular exercise are important for preventing cancer. Also, they advised not to ignore the early symptoms of cancer and to consult a doctor immediately.
IMA members demanded the state government to take strict action against adulterated food items.
Doctors said that adulterated and unhealthy food is a major reason for the increase in cancer cases.
There should be strict monitoring of whether the quality of colors used in food items is as per the standards or not, observed IMA members.
Adulterated ‘khoya’ and ‘paneer’ are being used indiscriminately, which is endangering people’s health.
The IMA members stressed that food safety agencies should be vigilant throughout the year and not active only during festivals.
