Uditvani, Jharkhand: The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand, warning of Nor’wester conditions likely to bring thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at speeds of 40–50 kmph at isolated places across the state between May 2 and May 4.
On May 2, the north-western parts of the state are expected to remain largely unaffected. However, thunderstorm activity is expected to intensify on May 3 and will likely impact all regions of the state on May 4.
Residents are advised to stay indoors during stormy weather and take necessary precautions, especially in areas vulnerable to lightning strikes and wind damage.
The unstable weather conditions are linked to a north-south trough extending from an upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Rajasthan down to north Kerala. This system, passing through West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Interior Karnataka, extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh and adjoining areas—currently observed between 3.1 and 7.6 km above mean sea level—is further contributing to the atmospheric instability.
The meteorological department has urged farmers, outdoor workers, and residents to stay updated with the latest forecasts and follow safety guidelines throughout the period.
