UditVani, Jamshedpur: Minimum temperatures across Jharkhand witnessed an abrupt fall, plunging to below 10°C in many places, as the impact of the western disturbance waned.
Most parts of the state sported clear skies and recorded low humidity levels, both conducive to lower Celsius readings.
The good news is the weather will stay as cool for the next few days before the mercury begins to rise again.
Ranchi felt the shivers at 9°C, one notch below normal.
Daltonganj, the Palamau headquarters, witnessed a three-degree drop to 7°C, the temperature being three notches below the average normal.
The mercury also nosedived to 4°C in Gumla and Giridih while minimum readings hovered around 5°C in Garhwa and Khunti.
Night temperatures hovered between 7°C and 8°C in Bokaro and Dhanbad.
The minimum temperature plunged to 9.4 degree Celsius in Jamshedpur.
“The Celsius is suddenly dropping because the impact of the western disturbance has waned,” confirmed a senior official at Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
Weathermen said the cooling effect would last another 48 hours or so before temperatures witnessing a gradual rise.
The forecast also ruled out possibilities of cloud formation owing to local effects or any system over the Bay of Bengal for the next five days at least.
The regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore, Kolkata, said westerly winds were currently blowing over the state and that they would continue to dominate for the next few days.
