Uditvani, Jharkhand: Community Health Officer (CHO) Jyoti Kumari, posted at the Arogyam Ayushman Mandir Health Centre in Ruhidih under the MGM police station area, died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Medica Hospital in Ranchi.
Jyoti was brutally attacked with a hoe at her workplace on April 18 and had been in critical condition since then.
Following the incident, police arrested her husband, Dr. Vijay Mohan Singh, on suspicion of involvement in the attack. He was brought to the MGM police station on Wednesday evening for questioning.
Jyoti’s brother, Prem Prakash Mahato, has filed an FIR against an unknown person but suspects foul play. In his statement to the police, he revealed that Jyoti had been mentally harassed by her husband for some time. She had even expressed concerns to her family over the phone, fearing for her life due to ongoing tensions with Dr. Vijay.
According to Prem Prakash, Jyoti had an argument with her husband on the morning of the attack, leading him to suspect that the assault may not have been the work of a stranger but someone known to her—potentially implicating Dr. Vijay.
A blood-stained hoe was recovered from the crime scene and sent for forensic analysis. Police officials have assured that the investigation is being carried out from all possible angles and that the truth will soon be revealed based on the evidence and interrogations.
The tragic incident has cast a shadow over the local health department, with colleagues remembering Jyoti as a dedicated and compassionate professional committed to her duties.
Authorities have promised swift action and assured the family that justice will be done.
