UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jharkhand continues to witness active monsoon conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a warning of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in the state on September 18 and 19.
Light to moderate rainfall has been recorded across several districts, while heavy downpours lashed a few pockets.
Palamu district reported the highest rainfall of 85 mm, highlighting the intensity of localized showers. Many other areas also received moderate rain, keeping reservoir and river water levels steady.
According to IMD, the line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon currently passes through 31°N/74°E, Watch and Bhatinda, Fatehabad, Pilani, Ajmer, Deesa, Bhuj and 23°N/68°E, showing that the monsoon retreat is yet to advance into eastern India.
The synoptic situation indicates the presence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. This system is driving rainfall activity over Jharkhand and neighboring states.
Officials said that while the monsoon has been normal over Jharkhand, timely showers have benefited farmers by supporting paddy transplantation and crop growth. However, people have been urged to stay alert to the risk of lightning strikes, particularly in rural areas where casualties are common during thunderstorms.
Weather experts predict that rainfall activity will gradually decline after September 20, though isolated spells may continue in parts of the state depending on local weather systems.
