UditVani, Jamshedpur: Concerned over confirmed cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka and Gujarat, now Jharkhand has also become alert about this virus.
Experts say that HMPV virus is already present, but it is not very aggressive. Despite this, the state health department has appealed for caution, and has expressed the need for people to remain alert instead of panicking.
Vigilance and Preparedness of Health Department
Jharkhand state health department held a meeting with all civil surgeons and discussed prevention measures to deal with HMPV cases.
Additionally, necessary kits to test possible cases of HMPV have also been ordered.
Health Secretary A K Singh issued directives for strengthening preparations to check the spread of the virus.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, Head of Microbiology Department of RIMS, took stock of the preparations in this regard and has planned to take appropriate steps.
Guidelines :
The health department has issued guidelines to prevent spread of HMPV
1. Use a mask – Mask should be worn in crowded and public areas.
2. Hand hygiene – Use sanitizer and wash hands thoroughly.
3. Avoid crowds – As far as possible, avoid going to crowded places.
4. Preparation in hospitals – Increase the number of beds in hospitals and ensure the supply of oxygen.
Symptoms of HMPV :
According to microbiologist Dr. Pooja Sahay, symptoms of HMPV infection include cough, cold, fever, sore throat and weakness. This infection usually heals in three to five days. However, if a person’s condition is serious, he may need medical care.
Need Not Panic :
There is no need to panic about HMPV virus infection, but it is very important to take precautions.
According to experts, this virus has been seen before in the winter season, and it usually occurs with mild symptoms.
Nevertheless, it is important to follow government guidelines and adopt appropriate health measures.
