UditVani, New Delhi: In 2022, India witnessed Rajya Sabha elections, 5 Lok Sabha by-polls, 7 State Legislative Assembly elections, and 28 Assembly by-polls. The Parliament also elected the country’s President and Vice-president in 2022. Though most of the major parties had their ups and downs this year, it was the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that made the year memorable by clinching Punjab Assembly and increasing its Rajya Sabha tally.
By the end of December 2023- four months before the next Lok Sabha election- the 9 states of Tripura, Telangana, Rajasthan, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh will go to polls.

Rajya Sabha elections in 2023
In 2023 Rajya Sabha elections will be held as part of a routine six-year cycle among certain of the State Legislatures to elect 10 of its 245 members. In July Rajya Sabha elections will be held for one seat in Goa and in August 2023 elections will be held for three seats in Gujarat and six seats in West Bengal.

New Parliament building to welcome MPs in 2023
Efforts are being made to complete the new Parliament building by the end of January 2023 before the budget session commences
In the new Lok Sabha, the carpeting work is over and the furniture is being installed. In the Rajya Sabha, the carpeting work is going on. The built-up space is 64,500 sq.m and the ₹971-crore building will have additional seating space in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha is expected to be able to accommodate at least 888 representatives.
