UditVani, Jamshedpur : Tata Main Hospital (TMH) has achieved a remarkable milestone in pediatric surgical innovation with the successful repair of a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) in a two-day-old baby girl. The life-threatening condition had caused the infant’s intestine, spleen, and part of the liver to shift into the left side of the chest, severely compromising her breathing.
In what is being hailed as the first-of-its-kind surgery in Jharkhand, Dr. Shishir Kumar led the procedure using a minimally invasive technique that involved just three small incisions. The complex surgery restored the baby’s anatomy, relieved pressure on her lungs, and paved the way for a smooth recovery.

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia is a rare and critical condition, and such advanced procedures are available at only a few premier centers in India. The success has brought new hope to families across the region.
With cutting-edge infrastructure, a specialized team of surgeons and anesthetists, and more than 800 pediatric surgeries conducted over the past three years, TMH is setting new benchmarks in child healthcare. The hospital aims to establish itself as the leading center for pediatric surgery in the region.
The achievement also resonates with Tata Steel’s philosophy of community care, embodying its tagline, *“We Also Make Tomorrow”*, through world-class healthcare services.
