A Grand 74th Annual Sports Day
UditVani, Jamshedpur: The 74th Annual Sports Day at Loyola School, a much-awaited celebration for sports enthusiasts, unfolded on November 22, 2024. This vibrant event combined athletic activities with a commitment to promoting discipline and physical fitness, setting an energetic tone for the day.
The ceremony began with the flag unfurling by the Chief Guest, Chanakya Choudhary, accompanied by Rev. Rector Fr. K.M. Joseph, Rev. Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes, Rev. Treasurer Fr. Gerald Ravi D’Souza, and Vice Principals Jayanthi Sheshadri and Vineeta Ekka.
Chanakya Choudhary, a distinguished alumnus of BITS Pilani and Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, was honored with a sapling, a shawl, and a memento as tokens of appreciation.
A Spectacle of Unity and Spirit
The Loyola Grounds came alive with a synchronized march past by four house contingents – Panthers, Leopards, Cheetahs, and Jaguars. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the torch by the school’s budding athletes, symbolizing the beginning of the Sports Meet. Students pledged to uphold sportsmanship and fair play, with the release of balloons and the Chief Guest declaring the meet open adding to the event’s grandeur.
In his speech, Chanakya Choudhary emphasized the transformative power of sports, reminding the audience that true winners are those who never give up, regardless of challenges.
Martial Arts: A Display of Strength and Discipline
Students from grades 6 and 7 showcased their prowess in martial arts, featuring dynamic performances in Taekwondo, Karate, Kalarippayattu, and Mixed Martial Arts. These demonstrations celebrated resilience, agility, and strategic thinking, highlighting how martial arts cultivate confidence and adaptability in young minds.
Thrilling Races and Electrifying Cheers
The track and field events were the heart of the day, featuring exhilarating races like the 100m sprint, 4×200m relay, and alumni races. The air buzzed with excitement as loud cheers and enthusiastic shouts from the audience created an electrifying atmosphere, boosting the spirits of participants.
A Memorable Closing Ceremony
The Guest of Honour for the closing ceremony, Colonel Rajneesh Sharma, Station Staff Officer, Jamshedpur, was welcomed with heartfelt gestures of gratitude. A decorated officer with a distinguished career in the Indian Army, Colonel Sharma inspired the audience with his words of encouragement and admiration for the students’ efforts.
Champions of the Day
The day concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony. Cheetah House clinched the Overall Championship Trophy, followed by Panther House. Jaguar House earned accolades for the Best Marching Contingent, while Leopard House was recognized as the Best Disciplined House.
The ceremony ended with the lowering of the school flag and a Vote of Thanks by Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes, who applauded the collective efforts of students, staff, and organizers. He emphasized the importance of celebrating both victories and defeats with the same zeal, as such events foster holistic development alongside academic achievements.
