UditVani Jamshedpur : Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City is all set to organise a “E- Waste Collection Drive” at the Beldih Club here tomorrow, January 11.
The E- Waste Collection Drive would be organised in association with Harmony Exhibition, which conducts fashion and lifestyle shows.
” The objective behind organising the event is to spread awareness for maximum use of eco friendly products and keeping the Mother Earth green , ” said an official of the Rotary Club, organising the event.
Founder of Harmony Exhibition, Preeti Khara said, ” We are into fashion and lifestyle shows since 2018 . This time we are coming up with eco-friendly and sustainability pop up show at the Beldih club . In fact we promote Indian weavers and artisans in our exhibition. In the evening we have musical night lined up alongwith yummy cuisines.”
According to her, it will be a day-long event where people can shop, enjoy music along with yummy food .
The event at Beldih Club will begin around 12 noon and continue till 10 pm.
It may be mentioned here that the IT industry alone is responsible for around 2 % of greenhouse gas emissions, as much as the entire airline industry.
Concerned over this Rotary Clubs in India are taking action to reduce the exponential growth of e-waste and teach communities how to replace crude and unsustainable methods for its disposal.
When e-waste is discarded without being recycled, all the natural resources that went into its production are lost. In addition to resource loss, e-waste contains toxic additives or hazardous substances.
Low collection rates, inefficient disposal, and poor treatment put at risk both the environment and human health.
Rotary Clubs organize e-waste collection drives to raise awareness about the environmental impact of e-waste and to reduce the amount of e-waste.
