UditVani , Jamshedpur / Mumbai: Tata Sons Chairman, N Chandrasekaran, today extended New Year greetings to Tata Group’s workforce and their families, expressing his gratitude for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. In his message, he shared reflections on the unpredictable year that was 2024 and outlined his optimism for the coming year.
Reflections on an Unpredictable Year
As 2024 comes to a close, Chandrasekaran described it as another year defined by global uncertainties. “2024 was marked by geopolitical instability and a slight brightening of the macro-economic outlook. Conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan worsened humanitarian crises, while political disruptions continued shaping global and domestic policies,” he stated. He also noted citizen-led movements in Bangladesh and South Korea, which reflected the evolving global landscape.
However, amidst these turbulent global events, Chandrasekaran highlighted the personal significance of 2024, as it marked the loss of Mr. Ratan Tata, a visionary leader whose integrity and strategic foresight shaped the Tata Group. “Our group has lost an irreplaceable role model, and I have lost a cherished mentor and friend,” he added, acknowledging the profound impact Ratan Tata had on the company and the individuals associated with it.
Expansion of Manufacturing Capabilities
Chandrasekaran shared some of the Tata Group’s most significant achievements from the past year. He emphasized the groundbreaking ceremonies and construction of over seven new manufacturing plants across India. “Among these, India’s first semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, and a new semiconductor OSAT plant in Assam stand out. We also established new facilities in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, including an electronics assembly plant in Narasapura and an automotive plant in Panapakkam,” he said.
He further highlighted the inauguration of new projects, such as a battery cell manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat, and another in Somerset, UK. The C295 final assembly line in Vadodara and the commencement of solar module production in Tirunelveli were also noted as key milestones. “TCS and Tejas Networks successfully delivered our first indigenous 4G telecom stack for BSNL, and we are poised for the 5G era,” he added.
AI and Technological Advancements in Healthcare
Chandrasekaran expressed his excitement about the future of AI and its potential to revolutionize various industries, especially healthcare. He explained how advancements in technology are now leading scientific discoveries, such as the Nobel Prize-winning AI model for predicting protein structures. “AI can transform healthcare in profound ways, not just in disease treatment but also in diagnosis. Machine learning is enhancing environmental research, and large language models could expand access to clinical care,” he elaborated.
A Vision for India’s Future in Manufacturing
Despite the ongoing global instability, Chandrasekaran expressed confidence in India’s growing manufacturing capabilities and talent pool. “The global equation is shifting toward resilience, and India stands poised to benefit. We plan to create 500,000 manufacturing jobs in the next five years. These will stem from our investments in facilities across India, which will produce critical hardware, including batteries, semiconductors, electric vehicles, and solar equipment,” he announced.
Looking Ahead with Optimism
In his conclusion, Chandrasekaran shared a sense of hope for 2025. “Despite the losses, I look ahead to 2025 with hope and optimism. India’s economy is strong, and the trends of the age are in our favour. Our vast pool of young talent will play a crucial role in shaping the future, contributing both with their hands and minds to build a new era of Indian manufacturing,” he concluded.
