UDIT VANI Jamshedpur : The District Election Officer, through a circular issued today notified dry day in East Singhbhum district on the day of assembly polls on November 13, Wednesday and in the day of counting on November 23, Saturday.
According to the notification, the dry day would be effective from 5 pm of November 11 to 5 pm of November 13 and on November 23, the day of counting of votes.
Voting is scheduled for November 13 in East Singhbhum district. In view of this, Deputy commissioner cum District Election Officer Ananya Mittal, issued the dry day order under relevant sections of Jharkhand Excise Act.
Other guidelines given as per the provision mentioned in Section 135 (c) of the Public Representation Act 1951 :
* In any hotel, eateries, schools, shops or any other public or private places within the polling area, during the period of 48- hours ending with the time fixed for the close of the polls, any fermented or intoxicating liquor or of a similar nature any other substance shall not be sold, given away or distributed.
* Any person who contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, or with both.
* Where any person is convicted of any offence under this section, any spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquor or other substances of a similar nature found in his possession shall be liable for confiscation.
