UditVani, Jamshedpur : Gold, silver, diamonds, platinum and idols seized from the portico area of Tatanagar railway station last month were handed over to jewelery traders on Monday.
The GST department and other officials investigated and evaluated the entire matter.
The case
On the morning of Sunday, October 27, a flying squad and RPF team of Chakradharpur division stopped BN Jha, a resident of Jugsalai, at Tatanagar station on the basis of suspicion. During the search of his bag, gold and silver jewellery, idols and valuables were recovered.

The total value was estimated to be around ₹1.57 crore.
Intervention of trade body
The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( SCCI ) requested the East Singhbhum Assortment Law and Penitentiary Committee to drop the seizure. After investigation, officials allowed the goods to be released on Monday.
Warning to businessmen
GST and Railway Protection Force have advised all businessmen to keep their documents and tax related certificates with them while travelling.
In such cases without valid documents, confiscation action will be taken. This incident shows the seriousness of the administration regarding security and tax compliance.
Surveillance has been beefed up in the station area to prevent such incidents in future.
