UditVani, Jamshedpur: The countdown has begun for one of the city’s most awaited cultural events of the year — the 39th Jamshedpur Book Fair, to be held from November 14 to 23 at Rabindra Bhavan in Sakchi.
Organized under the aegis of The Tagore Society, Jamshedpur, the event continues to serve as an annual literary gift to the citizens — a platform that transcends barriers of caste, religion, and language, bringing together everyone with a shared love for books and learning.
Announcing the details at a press conference held at the The Tagore Society campus this afternoon, General Secretary Ashis Chowdhury said the Jamshedpur Book Fair has become a tradition deeply embedded in the city’s cultural fabric. “This fair is not just an exhibition of books — it is a celebration of knowledge, creativity, and human connection. Every year, it reflects the city’s unity in diversity, with participation from all sections of society,” he remarked.

The inaugural ceremony will be held on November 14 at 6:30 p.m., with Prof. Gautam Sutradhar, Director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur, as the chief guest.
The guest of honour will be Amit Kumar Srivastava, Director and Controller of Arka Jain University.
The event will be graced by the office bearers of The Tagore Society and other distinguished dignitaries.
This year’s fair will feature 67 stalls, showcasing a vast and diverse collection of books from renowned publishers and distributors across Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai, Ranchi, Giridih, Jhargram, and other cities.
Alongside Hindi, Bengali, English, and Urdu titles, the fair will also highlight literature in regional languages such as Santhali, Ho, and Kurmali, promoting the rich linguistic diversity of Jharkhand.
Chowdhury emphasized that while the digital and electronic media landscape continues to expand, books remain the most authentic and enduring source of knowledge.
“No matter how fast the world of social media moves, books still hold the power to provide verified, comprehensive, and timeless understanding. From the ancient scripts written on palm leaves to modern printing on fine paper, the evolution of books tells the story of civilization itself,” he said.
He added that reaching the 39th milestone is a testament to the sustained love and participation of Jamshedpur’s citizens, corporate houses, educational institutions, and literary communities.
What started on a small scale decades ago has now become a grand annual event attracting thousands of visitors.
Readers, students, and book lovers gather here every year to quench their intellectual curiosity — and now, we even see the heartwarming tradition of people gifting books to one another, a gesture that strengthens the bond between hearts and minds.
Speaking on the contemporary relevance of the event, Chowdhury noted, “At a time when misinformation and unreliable sources often mislead people, books remain the only trustworthy guide to truth. I appeal to all scholars, writers, and thinkers who have always treated books as their companions to connect the younger generation with the world of reading.”
He further urged young readers, especially those engrossed in the digital and gadget-driven world, to rediscover the joy of reading. “Books are a vast ocean of wisdom. Once you dive in, you realize how deep and precious this treasure is. There is no greater joy than reading, and no other medium that provides knowledge as deeply as books do,” he explained.
The 2025 edition will also feature literary discussions, quiz contests, and book launches of newly published works.
Chowdhury invited readers, students, and professionals from all walks of life to visit the fair and enrich their personal collections and libraries.
He also encouraged corporate institutions and local libraries to expand their book collections through this fair.
The press conference was attended by Dr. H. S. Paul, President of the The Tagore Society; Sudeep Basu, Assistant General Secretary; Shantanu Chakraborty, Chairman of the Book Fair Committee; and Jaydeb Ghosh, In-charge of Tagore School of Arts, along with other office bearers.
With the scent of freshly printed pages ready to fill the air and the charm of Rabindra Bhavan set to transform into a haven for readers, the 39th Jamshedpur Book Fair promises to be not just a celebration of books, but a festival of thought, creativity, and culture — where every page turned opens the door to a new world.
