UditVani, Jamshedpur: Gaurav Kumar Bansal, a distinguished scientist and assistant professor at the CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur, has been awarded the ‘Young Engineers Award 2024-25’ by the Institution of Engineers India (IEI), the world’s largest multidisciplinary engineering professional society. This recognition highlights his exemplary contributions to engineering research, technology innovation, and industrial applications.
A Stellar Achievement Amongst Tough Competition
Bansal was selected for this prestigious honor from a pool of highly qualified candidates across India. The award was presented during the 37th National Convention of Metallurgical and Materials Engineers held in Salem on December 6.
Transformative Contributions to Indian Metallurgy
Over his 12-year career, Bansal has significantly advanced India’s metallurgical field by leading over 40 major projects under the Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative. His work includes the indigenous development of advanced wear-resistant steel, reducing dependency on imports, and designing crash- and blast-resistant steels that enhance vehicle safety and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence
Bansal’s groundbreaking research has earned him 11 patents (6 granted), over 30 publications in esteemed scientific journals, and 10 prestigious awards. Notable accolades include the AWSAR Award 2019, the S.P. Mehrotra Award 2020, and the B.R. Nijhawan Award in both 2020 and 2021.
