Tobacco Sale Restrictions Near Educational Institutions
Section 6b of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) of 2003 prohibits the sale of tobacco products within 100 yards (about 91 meters) of educational institutions. The purpose of this section is to reduce the availability of tobacco products to children.
The COTPA also prohibits the sale of tobacco products to anyone under 18 years of age.
The Government of India released guidelines in 2017 and 2019 to help implement Section 6b of the COTPA
