Uditvani, Jharkhand: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand, warning of possible thunderstorm activity and strong winds across several parts of the state today.
According to the latest bulletin, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected in most regions, excluding the north-western districts.
The unstable weather conditions have been attributed to the development of two atmospheric troughs. The first trough extends from a cyclonic system over northern Gangetic West Bengal down to north coastal Andhra Pradesh, moving through coastal Odisha at around 0.9 km above sea level. The second trough, also at 0.9 km altitude, stretches from a cyclonic circulation over south-central Uttar Pradesh to southern Tamil Nadu, cutting across Madhya Pradesh, northern Marathwada, and Interior Karnataka.
These systems are bringing in significant moisture and causing atmospheric instability, setting the stage for localized thunderstorms. Weather experts warn that the associated wind gusts may pose hazards, including the risk of falling objects and damage to infrastructure.
Residents are advised to remain indoors during storm activity, avoid sheltering under trees or in open areas during lightning, and secure any loose items that could be displaced by strong winds.
No major impact is expected in the north-western parts of the state, which are likely to remain dry and unaffected.
The IMD continues to keep a close watch on the evolving weather patterns and will provide further updates as necessary.
