Uditvani, Jharkhand: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur organized a laboratory visit of school students and teachers with the objective to promote scientific awareness among school students and by exposing them to the world of scientific research and innovation. This program was organized under the CSIR-Jigyasa Virtual Laboratory project.
29 students from TMM +2 High School, Karaduba(Ghatshila), East Singhbhum, visited CSIR-NML. They were accompanied by total 4 teachers. 30 students from MAV +2 High School, Matiabandhi (Chakulia), East Singhbhum. They are accompanied with 4 teachers.
In the morning inaugural programme was arranged. The inaugural programme started with a welcome address delivered by Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML. He welcomed all attendees who joined the program and briefly mentioned about the contribution of CSIR to the development of our nation in the past 82 years of glory through various technological developments and pioneering works.
Following the welcome address, Dr. Sarmistha Palit Sagar, Chief Scientist & Head, IMDC discussed the importance of CSIR-NML and research and development activities in the CSIR Laboratory. After that, Dr. Animesh Jana, Senior Scientist, IMDC also talked about the aim of the Jigyasa Program and its different activities. The program included visits to some research laboratories like Analytical & Applied Chemistry, Brass Melting, Urban Ore –Recycling, Creep, Iron/Steel Making Lab. and the Museum.
And also this programme included some interesting popular lecture series by Dr. Sital Kumar Pal, Head, RPBD on the topic Intellectual Property Rights, after that lecture delivered by Dr. K Gopala Krishna, Chief Scientist on the topic Important invention that changed Civilization, then next lecture given by Dr. Rashmi Singla, Sr. Scientist on the topic Waste to Wealth at last not the least the lecture delivered by Dr. Sreeda P., Sr. Scientist, RPBD on the topic Science as Career.
The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks and group Photographs by all attendees.
Overall, the students and teachers expressed their immense satisfaction with the insightful experience gained during the laboratory visit and demonstration of research activities.
