Acting on directives from District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, the operation targeted shops near private schools.
Seizures and Fines
Led by Sub-Divisional Officer of Dhalbhum, Shatabdi Majumdar, the raid uncovered tobacco products in two shops located within 100 yards of Jusco School, ADLS School, Jamshedpur High School, Karimia High School, and St. Mary’s School. The offending shopkeepers were fined on the spot, and the seized tobacco products will be cataloged and destroyed.
Prohibitions and Warnings
Highlighting the illegality of selling tobacco near schools, Shatabdi Majumdar emphasized that such actions violate local laws and threaten the safety of students. Shopkeepers were warned that future violations would result in stricter penalties. The officer reiterated that the sale of tobacco without health warnings is also prohibited.
Coordinated Effort
The investigation team comprised Executive Magistrate Sudipta Raj and Food Safety Officer Manjar Hussain, working collaboratively to inspect shops selling not just tobacco but also food items. The team aims to ensure compliance with legal guidelines and protect the health and well-being of students.
