Jamshedpur : Dhalbhum SDO Shatabdi Majumdar today carried out raid against sale of tobacco products in shops around schools at various places in Sakchi including Ambagan and SNP Area.
The raid was carried out following a directive from the deputy commissioner Ananya Mittal, in order to ensure that tobacco products are not sold within 100 yards of schools.
Surprise raids were conducted in shops around Shardamani School, Rajasthan Vidya Mandir and several other institutes.
Seizing tobacco products from five shops on the spot, Rs 1,000 was collected from the shopkeepers.
Fine was collected by the executive magistrate Chandrajit Singh.
Food safety officer Manjar Hussain was also included in the investigation team.
Sub-Divisional Officer Dhalbhum said that tobacco, cigarette or pan masala products alongwith other food items were being checked in shops/betel shops in the areas around schools.
In those shops where tobacco products were found during the investigation, the shopkeepers concerned were warned of strict action and fined if found selling tobacco products again.
Notably, sale of tobacco products is prohibited near schools. Apart from this, it is illegal to sell tobacco products without warning.
A seizure list will be made of the seized tobacco products and they will be destroyed.
The SDO said that investigation into tobacco products being sold illegally in shops will continue.
