Udit Vani: Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, renowned for its rich biodiversity and sprawling Sal forests, is set to host its inaugural Butterfly Festival from April 26 to 28, 2025, marking a significant step toward ecological awareness and community engagement. This first-of-its-kind event will spotlight the crucial role of butterflies in maintaining ecological balance and highlight the importance of conserving their habitats.
Organized with the objective of promoting butterfly conservation, the festival will include guided butterfly walks, identification sessions, and interactive discussions led by eminent experts such as Dr. V.P. Uniyal, Dr. Vandana, and Debanjana Basu, a well-known butterfly conservationist. The sessions are designed to help participants understand butterfly ecology, recognize different species, and appreciate their role as natural pollinators and indicators of environmental health.
Participants are expected to spot vibrant species including the Blue Mormon, Common Jezebel, Common Nawab, and Tailed Jay, among others, fluttering across the sanctuary’s verdant landscape.
The Butterfly Festival also reflects Dalma’s growing focus on environmental education and public involvement. The event invites nature lovers, students, researchers, and forest department personnel to celebrate the delicate beauty of butterflies while committing to their protection.
Registration for the event closes on April 24, 2025. For further details, interested participants can reach out to wildlife researcher Shiladitya Acharjee via WhatsApp at +91 8296604996.
With this initiative, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is poised to establish the Butterfly Festival as an annual feature in its conservation calendar, blending science, awareness, and celebration in a unique forest setting.
