Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur FC U17 wrapped up a trailblazing campaign in the AIFF U17 Elite Youth League 2024–25 as runners-up, falling short in the final with a 1-4 loss to a sharp and tactically superior Punjab FC side at the SAI Ground in Guwahati. Despite the defeat, the team etched their name in the history books by becoming the first-ever Jamshedpur FC or Tata Football Academy (TFA) squad to reach the final of India’s most prestigious youth football tournament.
The summit clash didn’t start as hoped for the Young Men of Steel. Punjab FC imposed themselves early, showcasing their trademark physicality and tactical control. JFC’s defence struggled to contain the pressure, allowing too much room in dangerous areas. Punjab struck first in the 28th minute directly from a corner, and in a devastating ten-minute spell, netted three more to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the break.
However, the second half was a different story. Jamshedpur FC came out with renewed determination, playing the kind of fearless, attacking football that had propelled them to the final. In the 57th minute, Lawmsangzuala nearly got them on the board, rattling the crossbar from range. Rayan C and Zuala worked relentlessly in midfield, while Mars Ningthoujam and Seram Singh added much-needed spark and urgency in the final third.
Their perseverance was rewarded in the 84th minute when Seram nodded in a well-delivered cross from the left, giving JFC a consolation goal that reflected their spirited second-half performance. The boys continued to press but couldn’t break through Punjab’s resolute backline again.
Regardless of the final scoreline, Jamshedpur FC U17’s journey was nothing short of phenomenal. They finished second in the qualifiers, topped the playoff round, and progressed from Group D as runners-up, before eliminating NorthEast United in the quarters and dominating AIFF-FIFA Talent Academy 5-0 in the semifinals.
This historic campaign is a testament to Jamshedpur FC’s vision and commitment to youth development. Many of these players were identified through a centralized scouting trial in Jamshedpur post-COVID and were brought into the system as U15 prospects just three years ago.
Though the final ended in heartbreak, this squad can hold their heads high. They have not only set a new benchmark for the club but also inspired a generation with their passion, growth, and never-say-die spirit
