UditVani, Jamshedpur : The West Singhbhum district police on Tuesday observed Police Commemoration Day with solemnity and gratitude, paying heartfelt homage to brave personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The event, held at the district police headquarters in Chaibasa, served as a reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of India’s police forces in safeguarding the nation and its citizens.
The ceremony was led by West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar, who, along with senior police officers, laid wreaths at the Police Memorial to honour the martyrs.

Officers, jawans, and family members of the police personnel gathered to observe a moment of silence in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice while performing their duties.
Speaking on the occasion, SP Shekhar said that Police Commemoration Day is not only a day of remembrance but also a time to reaffirm the values of duty, courage, and service to the nation.
He highlighted the sacrifices made by police personnel in maintaining internal security, combating insurgency, and ensuring law and order in challenging conditions, particularly in regions like West Singhbhum where security forces often operate in difficult terrain.
He added that the police department remains committed to the safety and welfare of its personnel and their families.
Efforts are continuously being made to modernize policing infrastructure and improve coordination among different wings of the force.
The event also saw the reading of the names of martyrs from across the country who lost their lives in the past year while on duty.
The gesture reflected the solidarity of the police fraternity nationwide, transcending regions and ranks.
The commemoration concluded with the national anthem, following which floral tributes were offered by officers and jawans.
The atmosphere remained charged with emotion as participants remembered the valor and selflessness of the fallen heroes who continue to inspire generations of police personnel across India.
Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 across the nation to honor the memory of ten brave CRPF men who sacrificed their lives defending the Indian border in Ladakh in 1959 — a legacy that continues to inspire every uniformed service member to this day.
