UditVani, Jamshedpur : A sudden outbreak of violence in Sakchi’s Sanjay Market on Friday left the busy commercial area in chaos after a mob of over 100 youths attacked shopkeepers and looted cash in broad daylight.
Eyewitnesses said the mob arrived near the Hanuman Temple, armed with pistols and sharp weapons, and launched an unprovoked assault on traders. Mobile shop owner Nitin Srivastava, garment trader Amrit, and his father were seriously injured, while Nitin’s father Naresh Srivastava received minor injuries. The attackers also snatched Rs 22,000 from Naresh during the rampage.
The sudden attack triggered panic, forcing shopkeepers to shut their shutters and flee. Although most of the attackers escaped, three were overpowered by local traders and handed over to the Sakchi police.
Investigations revealed that the violence was linked to a dispute two days earlier between Nitin and Raj Singh’s staff over setting up a shop. Raj Singh allegedly returned with supporters to settle scores, leading to Friday’s assault.
Police have registered a case and stepped up deployment in the area to prevent further incidents.
The trader community has expressed strong anger over the incident, demanding strict action and questioning the collapse of law and order in a busy market during the day.
