
Udit Vani Jamshedpur: The election process for the Tata Steel UISL Shramik Union (formerly Jusco Shramik Union), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Steel, began on Tuesday morning.
By 1 pm over 50 % of the 642 eligible voters had cast their votes. Out of the total voters, three have retired, leaving 639 active voters.
Voting commenced at 7 am and will continue until 4 pm. Counting of votes will begin after 4 pm and the results are expected to be announced by late evening. The new committee will assume office on June 11.
Election officer C.S. Jha, alongwith two committee members Abhini Mathan and Saroj Pandey, is overseeing the process under tight security.
The election is being held at the green campus of the Tata Steel UISL office in Bistupur. A total of 17 booths have been set up for the polling.
There are 40 candidates contesting for 17 committee member seats. Additionally, there are four candidates running for the post of president, with a total of 10 posts being contested overall.
Current president Raghunath Pandey, executive president Amarnath Tiwari, and general secretary C.D.S. Krishnan are among the key contenders.
